Thank you for your kind words. I loved my few days in Porto and in Lisbon, and was shocked to learn just how recently fascism had been Portugal’s reality. I had thought—expected, really—that America’s centuries of tradition would insulate it from fascism so much better than it has. I must admit I’ve been gravely disappointed by what I’ve seen over these past three weeks. I’m hoping the tide will turn, but don’t know how that will happen. Time will tell, I suppose. All the best to you and to the people of Porto. The Sao Bento train station is one of the most magnificent that I’ve ever seen. And I don’t drink, but my wife is a huge fan of Super Bock beer. Let’s hope that all will be well in the end.
