Another unique thing about the national game. I wonder how many Lawrences there are in the game. I know quite a few in my life, but no Larrys.

I don't miss the complete games. It's great when it happens but I don't find baseball more interesting for it. At least not most I'd the time. I'd rather see pitchers throw their best stuff, and there is no going back anyway. You can tell a pitcher not tk his best. How many do you think are going to do that?

And, in another sport, Larry Bird is a name which nobody will ever forget. I wondered, in another piece, if all of the "Mikes" have now turned into "Michaels" because of a certain player who wore number 23 and won six NBA titles. But no similar thing seems to have happened for the player who wore number 33 and won three straight MVP awards.

Good point. But checking baseball reference it seems my idea about Lawrence is misplaced. Perhaps children named Lawrence are all teaching literature and not allowed to play ball…

or they're actors, because you've got Laurence Fishburne and Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs. Neo and Boom-Boom sounds pretty interesting to me.

At any rate, remembering the departed is one of the best uses of memory. You keep writing, and I will continue to appreciate what you are doing.
